Description:

This is a prospective, potentially multicenter specimen collection study in which a variety of blood culture bottles will be collected from participants ≥18 years old. The goal is to achieve 100-150 positives per media type; therefore, approximately 1,000 bottles will be collected to reach this goal. It is anticipated to take approximately six (6) months to accomplish this task. Participants are to include those suspected of having a blood stream infection. Those participants will be identified by having pending orders based on the routine stand of care (SOC) assessment at the associated institute.

This specimen collection study will support the development and testing of an algorithm used to enhance blood background detection for an automated BD BACTEC instrument.
